The Academy is located in Schaumburg, Illinois, which has
grown to become the largest retail economic hub outside of
Chicago, Illinois. Schaumburg is also a well-developed residential
community with a nature sanctuary, center for the arts, convention
center, over 80 miles of bike paths, and hiking trails.
Schaumburg
is the home to Woodfield Mall, one of the largest enclosed
malls in the country; the Chicago Athenaeum, a museum
of architecture and design; the second largest IKEA, a
Swedish based home furnishing store; large corporations,
including
IBM, Intel, Xerox, A.C. Nielsen, Zurich and Motorola; and
many restaurants and hotels.
Schaumburg has various types
of homes to fit every lifestyle, including single-family
homes, duplexes and townhomes.
Many neighborhoods border parks or nature preserves,
and are convenient
to shopping and transportation. Although Schaumburg is
recognized as a center of business and commercial activity,
residents
have a genuine sense of community.
In addition to shopping
at Woodfield Mall, tourist are often drawn to Schaumburg
to enjoy the annual “Septemberfest”,
held during Labor Day weekend; and to experience 11th
century style dining with a jousting tournament at Medieval
Times.
